September
Recap:

During the Labor Day weekend the activities ranged from new live entertainment, to one of the favorites, the Survivor Games Series.  October Fest was a big hit this year!  Thanks to everyone who made this great event a success!  As always the horse races are a "hoot" and the Trifecta has been raised to new heights yet again.  The Nudelywed Finals went well, the winners received a $100 Gift Certificate.
This month we enjoyed some new entertainment:
Live Entertainment by Scott Lowber and the
LIVE BAND - Hook Echo.

We also want to thank our favorite entertainers who alway thrill and delight us, hats off to:
Thank You for continuing to provide us with great events all season long!

After almost a decade of friendly, and faithful service in our OLT office, Dennis will be retiring at the end of 2017. Dennis is looking for a person or persons who would like to work with him in preparation for assuming this important position.
Those interested may contact Dennis, Jim H, or Gary S
NOTE: Rick & Ann would like to thank everyone who has played and supported Survivor since it's inception in 2006.  Without your enthusiasm it would not be the success it is.
Teams:
Ken's Blue Camo - "Patriots", won Survivor 2017 and were awarded their shirts in the color of safety orange.
John's Green Camo - "Bare Buns", came in second, followed by Tim's Tan Camo - "Inglorious Bastards", and Cathy's Zebra - "Strip Naked", was in 4th place.
Bare Buns was in the lead until points were tripled in the last game putting the Patriots into the winning position.

OLT - Aluminum Cans
by
Ray & Diana
Where do all those soda and beer cans go?  As you know we have special, marked trash barrels placed around the park to collect aluminum cans.
The proceeds of those sales go to purchase landscaping and flower garden materials for the grounds.  And you may wonder,
"Where do we sell the cans?"
Glad you asked.  They are collected, bagged, and hauled to the Show, Inc. store in Sapulpua.  "Show" is a not-for-profit organization that hires disabled adults and some disabled adult-aged youth, to collect, sort, and load the cans onto a weight scales to see how many pounds we delivered.  The present price for selling aluminum cans is 35 cents per pound.  And it takes a lot of cans to weigh a pound!  So far we have sold hundreds of dollars to enhance our grounds.  Not a bad deal.  About 80 folks that would otherwise have difficulty getting a job are employed.  We conserve our aluminum for recycling and we improve our grounds appearance.  Good for us.
Oaklake Flood Control - Part 2
On the OLT property there are nine small lakes that retain water flow during peak rain periods, typically in the spring and fall.
Oak Lake:
Located south of the parking lot, in the southwest corner of the property.  It is named for the large oak tree at the west end of the dam.
(Directions) To hike to the lake, follow the trail starting behind the office, at marker #7.  Follow the main trail south along the ridge and RV sites to a split where a tail turns to the right or west.  Veer to the left and stay on the main trail down a steep hill and follow where it curves to the right.  The lake is on your left.  Return to the park by following the main trail across the dam, through the woods, and up a straight climb.  The trail turns right into a meadow:  At the "y" continue straight through the meadow, then through a short wooded area, bare left up the gravel trail into the residential area.  Right takes you back on the road to the camp.
Authors:
Ray & Diana

Every month we will describe one of the lakes and list the directions to access each one using the trails to make it easier for hiking.
Special Oaklake Project!
OLT would like to HONOR our VETERANS by creating a photo display in the clubhouse.  All Oaklake Trails Members are encouraged to participate.  If anyone would like to submit photos (clothed in uniform or not) or stories please Email any info to: office@oaklaketrails.com
We would like to know how many of our members have served in the military?  If you have a moment please answer the one question below by selecting the branch of the military you served in.  Thank You for your service!
According to the American Legion:
The order of march is stated in regulation and calls for the Army to march first, followed by the Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and the Coast Guard. The same would be used to display the flags in one rank, such as a Color Guard, from left to right. (Military Regulation)

Participate in this Survey by Answering the following question:
** Which Branch of the Military did you serve in? **
Oaklake Members of any age are welcome to attend the event at no charge.  Guests will pay $10.00 for entry to the park and event activities.  Tickets are available online at $10.00 per person.  To purchase tickets simply click the button below.  Each guest will need to check in at the office upon arrival to show "proof of purchase" and to sign in using Oaklake's normal Procedures.

Do your pumpkin carving without the mess!  Choose a pumpkin that you can turn into a masterpiece with the help of different tools. Keep the fun on your phone or use this app as practice so you can finally beat the Jones at the neighborhood pumpkin carving contest.

Ghost Observer:
Feeling haunted? This tool helps you detect, observe, and interact with ghosts! It uses advanced technology to detect and analyze any spirits around you. Take this to a haunted house or spooky graveyard and see who you can't see.

Halloween Ringtones:
Choose a fun or scary Halloween sound that you can set as a ringtone or even an alarm. The sound of mummy zombies will be sure to get you out of bed in the morning. Or apply a terrifying shriek to your mother-in-law's contact info.
Offering a lunch buffet every Sunday this year was a real treat!  The Catfish dinner is amazing (as all the food you cook is) and you also make a great Burger!
We want to say Thank You to Patricia, Sara, and all of her Family for the wonderful food service you prepared this year.  Your many hours of hard work during convention and major events made this season at Oaklake a winner!  We look forward to seeing you again soon.
